Great Apps You Should Install on the iPad

The consensus on the iPad is crystal clear: Apple’s cool new slate is awesome! But which applications should you download so you can immediately? These are five great apps, which should be excellent launching pads for the start of your journey.

Those who are buying the iPad have no doubt will discover that the selection of iPad-specific apps is a little thin. There are just about 5,000 apps for the iPad compared with 170,000 apps for the iPhone. Don’t worry! It’s still in early stage and many of the software developers are working on useful and attractive new apps.

These five iPad apps should be your favorites for your daily uses:

News Rack

If you consume a shipload of news everyday then News Rack should be your first choice. It is a comprehensive RSS feed reader with an impressive interface. It allows you to skim the latest stories. For example, you can use Google Reader as your news feeds, and the app can pull those feeds right into your tablet.

It also has a great sharing feature compared to other RSS feed readers. Share with e-mail, Twitter, Del.icio.us and Instapaper. With your iPad in landscape mode you can scan the headlines on the right column and read full article on the left column. And you don’t have to leave the application to watch videos.

Words with Friends

It’s a pure pleasure to be sure. You may get addicted to the iPad version of ‘Words with Friends’ easily. You can consider it as a crossword game or perhaps a great Scrabble rip-off that can be played with friends. It is social gaming at its best.

The premise is really simple: just challenge a buddy to a game session and take turns in applying your dictionary skills as you are trying to beat your opponent. With push notification you will know when your friend has completed a turn. Of course, you can play six game sessions at once, but don’t bite more than you can chew.

Kindle

Amazon did a clever thing, leveraging its Kindle brand across many platforms. It’s natural to develop a Kindle version for the iPad, its weight, thickness, stunning display and screen size can make a great e-book reader. Although iBooks is a good app, the Kindle app has some extra features, for example saving highlights right in the cloud.

Evernote

It is a great app for organizing your daily activities. You can keep track just about anything you can think of, including photos, recipes, voices, and memos, all stored within Evernote’s fully searchable system.

It is also available for Windows, Mac, Android, and iPhone. If you set up a to-do list on your home PC with Evernote, you can read it later and make changes on your iPad. There are infinite ways of using Evernote.

NPR

Experience NPR in magazine style with a focus on News, Arts & Life, and Music content that’s broad, deep, and timely. It’s NPR like you’ve never seen us before. The app also replicates popular features of the NPR News iPhone app, including playlist, hourly newscasts, station finder, and sharing. And, we are already working on future enhancements for our next released audio interviews into a playlist.
